Steel Sheet Metal

Steel sheet is commonly used for equipment housings, brackets, cabinets, ductwork, machine guards, panels, roofing components, enclosures, covers, automotive and transportation components, agricultural equipment, and fabricated assemblies. Thin sheet is particularly useful when a component must be cut and formed into a specific geometry rather than used as a solid structural section.

When selecting Steel Sheet Metal, buyers should specify thickness or gauge, width, length, steel grade, surface finish, dimensional tolerance, flatness, edge condition, and applicable manufacturing standard. Depending on the product, processing may include laser cutting, plasma cutting, shearing, punching, bending, rolling, stamping, welding, and forming.

Cold-rolled sheet can provide improved surface quality and dimensional control, while hot-rolled sheet may be preferred for applications where heavier gauges and general structural performance are more important. Galvanized or coated sheet can be selected for improved corrosion protection.

Proper storage and handling are important to prevent distortion, scratches, and corrosion. For fabricated products, the selected grade should be compatible with the forming, welding, coating, and finishing processes required by the project.
