Galvanized Plank Grating

Galvanized plank grating is a narrow, elongated metal walking surface designed to provide a combination of strength, drainage, and traction. It is commonly manufactured from formed or fabricated steel with a zinc coating that helps protect against corrosion. Depending on the design, the plank may feature punched openings, raised or serrated surfaces, formed channels, or other anti-slip features. The open or perforated construction allows water and debris to pass through more readily than a solid plate, making it useful for access routes and service platforms in industrial and outdoor settings.

Typical applications include maintenance walkways, catwalks, mezzanines, equipment platforms, access stairs, trench covers, utility areas, and industrial facilities where a durable walking surface is needed. The galvanized coating can improve service life in humid or weather-exposed conditions, but performance depends on coating quality, environmental exposure, drainage, and proper installation. Plank grating is not automatically suitable for every load or span: bearing capacity depends on the plank profile, material thickness, support spacing, fixing method, and the type and frequency of loads.

Before specifying a product, check the overall width and length, profile depth, material thickness, opening pattern, surface texture, end treatment, load rating, and compatibility with the supporting structure. Serrated surfaces can improve grip in wet or oily conditions, but the required slip resistance should be matched to the actual site conditions. Use suitable clips, bolts, or other approved fasteners to prevent movement and uplift. Inspect cut edges and damaged zinc coating after fabrication and repair them where necessary.
