Galvanized Square Tube

Galvanized square tube is a hollow structural steel section with a square cross-section and a zinc coating intended to improve corrosion resistance. The hollow profile offers useful strength and rigidity while keeping material weight efficient, and the flat faces make it convenient to connect, align, and fabricate into frames. Depending on the specification, square tubing may be produced from pre-galvanized strip or galvanized after forming; the coating process, steel grade, wall thickness, and applicable tolerances should be checked before use in a project.

Common applications include gates and fences, handrails, posts, canopies, greenhouse frames, racks, furniture, equipment supports, light structural assemblies, agricultural structures, and general fabrication. The zinc coating helps protect the steel in many indoor and outdoor environments, but the suitable service life depends on coating thickness, moisture, pollution, abrasion, and maintenance. Galvanized tubing is available in different outside dimensions, wall thicknesses, lengths, and grades. Square and rectangular hollow sections can look similar, but their dimensions and structural properties differ.

For selection, confirm outside width and height, wall thickness, length, steel grade, coating type and mass, straightness, corner radius, weld seam quality, and the relevant structural standard. Consider the loads, span, connection details, drilling or cutting operations, and exposure conditions. Cutting, grinding, or welding can remove or damage the protective zinc layer, so the worked area may require suitable zinc-rich repair protection. Where the tube will carry structural loads, use verified engineering data and do not estimate capacity from the outside dimensions alone.
