Strut Galv. Channel 1-5/8 x 13/16 x 12GA w/univ. slots – 5′ long
This galvanized strut channel (also known as metal framing channel or unistrut-style channel) has a 1-5/8 in (41.3 mm) wide by 13/16 in (20.6 mm) deep C-shaped profile formed from 12-gauge steel and is supplied in 5 ft (1.52 m) lengths. Universal slots are punched along the channel so that fasteners and fittings can be positioned at many points along its length. Inward-turned lips grip the channel nut, creating a strong, adjustable connection without drilling or welding.
Strut systems are a mainstay of electrical, mechanical and plumbing installations because they are quick to assemble, easy to adjust and economical. A compatible range of fittings, brackets, clamps, hangers and threaded rod lets you build trapeze hangers, equipment racks, pipe supports, cable trays, solar mounting rails and light structural frames.

Choosing a Strut Size
Channel depth and gauge determine stiffness and load capacity. Deeper and heavier-gauge channels carry more load over longer spans. Always follow the manufacturer load tables and your engineer’s design for the fittings you use. Galvanized steel is carbon steel protected by a zinc coating. The zinc acts as a barrier against moisture and oxygen and also protects the steel sacrificially at small scratches and cut edges, which is why galvanized material is a long-lasting choice for outdoor, damp and industrial settings.
Cutting and Finishing
Galvanized steel can be cut, drilled, welded and fastened with standard metalworking tools. Zinc fumes are released when galvanized steel is welded, so work in a well-ventilated area, use appropriate respiratory protection and grind away the coating near the weld zone where possible. After cutting, welding or drilling, touch up exposed steel with a zinc-rich cold galvanizing compound to restore corrosion protection.
Storage and Handling
Handle and store the material off the ground, on dunnage, in a dry and ventilated area. Avoid stacking wet material tightly, as trapped moisture can cause white storage stain (harmless zinc oxide). Dimensions, weights and finish appearance (spangle) may vary slightly between production lots. Please verify critical dimensions and load requirements with your engineer before purchase; this product description is for general guidance and is not a substitute for engineering design.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which fittings are compatible?
Standard channel nuts, spring nuts, brackets and hangers designed for this channel width.
Is this strut suitable for outdoor use?
Galvanized finish is suitable for many outdoor and damp locations. For very corrosive environments, consider heavier coatings or stainless options.
